HEADSHOTS in LOS ANGELES
Most importantly!
- Be well rested and healthy.
- Drink lots of water and get a little exercise the days before your shoot.
- Be Relaxed
Women’s Makeup:
Please wear your makeup as you do when you go out to a dinner or job interview.
Your headshot should look like you on your very best day. There is no need to do anything different or new with your makeup for a headshot session. We’ll make adjustments just before we shoot if needed.
Do bring –
- A small makeup kit
- compact mirror
- concealer/ foundation
- mascara
- lipstick
- eyeliner
- blush
- hairspray / product
- comb/brush
- VISINE Eye Drops
- LIP GLOSS
Clothing:
Solid colors in tones that complement your skin, hair and eyes. What you would wear to an audition or professional interviews is what you should wear in your headshot.
- Three or four distinct looks are good to have. Sporty, Casual, Formal, Business.
- Layers give us more options. (i.e., ribbed knit tops, light cardigan, ties, or jackets.)
Go through your closet and play with different looks. What kind of roles have you been called in for? What kind of roles do you want?
Do – Clean and press your clothes. They should look close to new.
DON’T WEAR – stripes, busy patterns, shirts with logos or prints, excessive cleavage, big jewelry, anything that can be read.
The headshot is about you not your clothes.
Men
Groom your beard or facial hair so that lines are clean. You’ll shave your face during the shoot for another look.
Bring
- Shaving kit
- VISINE
- Comb/Brush
- Hair Product

this is great advice, i have a photo shoot on July 12th and im new to the modeling world, and was confusded when they told me to bring Casual, and Formal clothes…. but your advice relaxes me, and helps me prepare the day before…. I was wondering if you could help me with the Formal clothing? Does it have to be a dress, almost like im going to dance or something?
Hi Ashley,
My best advice is to ask the photographer exactly what they mean. Everyone has a different interpretation. Go straight to the people that told you to bring those clothes.
When you know what they mean, then look in fashion magazines and get ideas for styles and looks that would suit you.
