What does Kiefer have to do with me? Not much. But I did get to meet him the day he got his DUI. That was Saturday September 29, 2007. He was being honored with an award of Excellence at the Canadian Consular General’s Residence in Los Angeles.

I’m a member of ACTRA, (the Canadian version of SAG). I have the special privilege of being invited to this award presentation every year. It really is an intimate event. A nice mix of veteran actors and up and comers are in attendance.

The best part is being recognized as a professional among peers. Actors get so little credit in Los Angeles. Its nice to be respected once in a while.

News of Kiefer Sutherland’s DUI is all over the place that day, so I wondered if he would even show up. I can imagine how tired he would have been after partying all night and getting arrested at 3 in the morning. He made it to the event on time and he looked great. Relaxed, poised and professional.

Kiefer accepted his award with gratitude and generosity. A real class act. I was brave enough to ask for a picture with him. He obliged.

I would love to get on 24. Going to toe to toe with Jack Bauer would be awesome.

I made a new friend that day as well.

Kate Kelton is known in Canada and the United States as the Tic Tac Girl. She landed five national spots for the tasty little candy mints.

After stealing the show in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, she’s been making waves here in Los Angeles. She’s in Cake with Heather Graham and Sandra Oh of Grey’s Anatomy.

Keep an eye out for this talented young lady. She’s on the rise.
