Actors in Los Angeles need to know what makes a great Headshot.
I’ve been reading L.A. casting Director Bonnie Gillespie’s latest edition of Self Management For Actors.
It is the most comprehensive guide to managing your career as an actor in Los Angeles.
In it she talks about Primary Type. Creating a Headshot that does its job as a marketing tool takes knowing your Primary Type – What buyers (Agents / Manager/ Casting Directors / Directors / Audience) want to buy from you as an actor.
To get a Headshot that gets you called in by Casting Directors you must know what it is you are selling as an individual and find a way to capture that image in an 8 x 10 Photo.
Bonnie posted a great Musecast video on her Facebook page from actress Helenna Santos.
Check out Helenna’s and all the Musecast Videos on YouTube.
Sandra Oh recieving the ACTRA Award of Excellence, Los Angeles, California
I recently had a chance to photograph Sandra Oh at the Canadian Consular’s residence, where she received the Award of Excellence from the Canadian actors union ACTRA. She is best known for her role in the Emmy Award winning T.V. series Grey’s Anatomy, where she plays Dr. Christina Yang. Ms. Oh was gracious and enthusiastic about receiving the award.
She talked of her days as a new actor fresh out of National Theatre School in Montreal. A proponent of the Theatre and Arts education she shared the importance of the Arts in her life and work.
The event was full of Canadian actors who live and work in L.A. A highlight for me was meeting Anthony De Longisfor the second time. He is an America with Canadian working status and a member of ACTRA. We first met at the ACTRA Award of Excellence presentation for Kiefer Sutherland. Anthony is a horseman and weapons master specializing in sword and bullwhip. He’s trained Michelle Pfeifer and Harrison Ford to use the Bullwhip in their respective roles as Catwoman and Indiana Jones. You’ll recognize him in a cool fight scene with Jet Lee in the Wu Shu movie “Fearless”
